Guidelines
We are ready to hear your voice through writing and art. We look forward to reading and viewing diverse and unique pieces. Our goal is to publish powerful and moving works from writers/artists from Tennesee and beyond. Our focus is to provide a platform for new and established creators, and we especially encourage any students to submit their work. We would love to encourage anyone to submit your favorite piece(s). If you are having trouble submitting, please email us at redmudeditor@apsu.edu. Please allow 3-4 weeks for a response from one of the editors on your submission.

Guidelines

All submissions must be previously unpublished; including personal blogs, social media and/or websites.
Please only send original work. If your work quotes or borrows from other work, that source should receive credit. If the source is uncredited, your work will not be considered.
No edits will be accepted during submission period unless a revision is requested by an editor.
With submission and acceptance of your work, you agree to be published on our Instagram .
All submissions should have a brief 1 –2 paragraph cover letter/bio that includes contact information (name, address, phone number, email) as well as the genre you are submitting to (Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, Art) and the title(s) of your submission. Your bio should be in the third person.
Authors/Artists MAY submit in more than one category. However, you may not be accepted in all categories you submit to.
We accept submissions from Tennessee and beyond, but prioritize student work.
All students are welcome, regardless of status: dual-enrollment, online, overseas, etc.

We accept up to 1 story per submission period.
Please limit submissions to 3k words in length.
Major revisions and edits will not be accepted after submission unless requested by an editor.

We accept up to 1 traditional essay or 2-3 flash pieces.
Please limit submissions to ~500-1,500 words.

We accept up to 3 pieces per submission period.
There is not a length requirement or limit. However, We reserve the right to reject poetry that is excessive in length due to the preservation of space within the publication. We make considerations for length due to artistic choice.

We accept works in languages other than English. We encourage expressing your creativity in other languages!
For prose, please limit 1 work per submission period.
For poetry, please limit 3 pieces per submission period.
We require a translation of all foreign language pieces in English to be submitted along with the original piece.
If you are unable to provide a translation due to language barriers, please note this in your submission and the editors will work with you.
We reserve the right to screen pieces and translations through language experts at Austin Peay State University.

Please limit submissions to 3 pieces per submission period.
Please submit pieces in PNG or JPEG form.
We reserve the right to reject art submissions due to offensive or harmful subject matter and the preservation of the aesthetic mission of the Red Mud Review publication.
If your art is rejected, the editors will inform the artist why the piece was rejected.
Rejection does not automatically result in barring the artist from submitting a different piece.
The average response time is 3-4 weeks. We hope to respond to every submission within this timeframe. Thank you for your time and patience!
If the work is accepted elsewhere after you submit to us, please email us immediately to withdraw it, and congratulations on your publication!
The Red Mud Review requires first North American serial rights upon acceptance; after publication, the rights revert back to the author.
Lastly, The Red Mud Review reserves the right to make minor grammatical adjustments to your piece, but larger revisions (if accepted) are the responsibility of the author.
